Every hero is a normal human…

Nah, they can give out directives and regulations to force the hand of local legislation. It happens all the time for many things.
And I already said it costs money. And that is okay. National security costs money The EU spends several hundred billions every year on its military. A safe OS is much more important than a couple more jets. Even if it costs 5 billion euros, screw it even if it is 5 billion every year, it is still cheap compared to what it brings.

I am not just talking about funding, but about investing in operating an alternative OS. All goverment institutions should be switched over. A single entity alone is not able to do this, because they face too many compatibility problems with other institutions/contractors/software companies (this is also why the article says “mostly”, even the military isn’t able to do it on its own, not even just for the office package, leave alone the OS). But if the EU decides to do this, everyone else will follow and start using compatible software.

I’d assume they would probably hire a few developers to get the things they specifically need into the software.

I’ll never not be angry about the EU not developing their own OS/Distro, but using US software with backdoors. It is just insane. Yes, it probably would cost a few hundred millions extra, but a fighter jet also costs 100-130 million € and a safe OS is so extremly more important than a couple of extra fighter jets…

I think they also paid for the Alaska Purchase.

Tbh, I’d much prefer if no one did.

TurkoGerman here and we do that all the time. Our families back in turkey learned enough german by now thay we even do it in turkey…
Same for my tunisian wife (Arabic instead of Turkish though).

“365*10”???

True, but that is what did the trick. No tinkering, just a flawless experience (in most cases). This changed everything. No longer I start a game in the evening, wondering if it will start or not (I worked all day, I don’t want to google what I have to change to get the game to run again…). I double click and expect it to work (and it normally does).
There are things to learn from this…
I think everyone in our company has two monitors, from low level to the CEO (excepts those exclusively working in the field, they only have robust tablets). But it still checks out, we are just a subsidiary, so everyone is a slave I guess.

Maybe you should google what “scapegoat” means.

I think they didn’t get what the fake argument of these politicians were and just jumped to hating children+parents.

You are cursing at the scapegoats. Don’t fall into this trap.

We had hardcore magazines that circulated back in the days before easy internet. Guess the last time children didn’t have access was probably in the 18th century or so.
Guess the next step is controlling all chat groups, emails and cloud spaces to “avoid children exploiting these”…

It is not about the children, nor their parents. Redirect your anger towards the perpetrators, not towards the scapegoats…
If not Ubuntu, I’d at least stay in the Debian realm.
wonder why they don’t just install Debian with XFCE directly
I think the main reason are the “MX Tools” which get praised a lot. And maybe also the “Advanced Hardware Support” they offer.

You could have a look at MX Linux.
Like in pretty much all branches, the AI will eventually just be another tool. There still needs to be someone there to actually understand what the tool produces or it will result in catastrophees. You don’t want to live in a building structurally designed by an AI without oversight nor fly in a plane programmed y an AI without oversight. Even for non-critical branches, there will be someone who directs the AI when it is e.g. composing the next shitty pop-song.
