Lots of villages in NH, although I don’t think it’s a legal term. For example, Wakefield NH residents seem to refuse to accept that they have a town. They refer to the legal township as “the villages of Wakefield”, and when asked their residency, will say “I live in the village of Union” (or Sanbornville, etc.) also, there is the village of Milton Mills in the town of Milton, and Gonic in Rochester.
ADK is short for ADirondacK mountain range. The others are the Green Mountain range and White Mountain range. All start in New England. The saying describes how step on the trail without causing it to erode into a gully.
Nothing says they weren’t intentional.

In the USA, Bookshop.org allows you to buy books online, and 10% of sales (different from 10% of profits) support independent bookstores. I have a sort-of local bookstore whose hours don’t work well with my free time. I order online from bookshop.org and designate “my” bookstore to get the 10%. Win win!
