Yeah I like some of the hexbear comms and sometimes participate. Vegan Theory Club is an offshoot of Hexbear after the great vegan struggle sessions of 2021 when my account there got banned. We’re mainly a two discord servers called Vegan Theory Club and Vegan Home Cooks and we launched the lemmy more recently.

Well I mean in terms of federated reddit clone, Lemmy is a server (only), lemmy-ui, the web site, is just one of many possible clients and completely separate from the server app. If you’re running a web server you can install alexandrite or mlmym instead. I mostly use Jerboa and now Blorp.

lol I am as dumb as artificial intelligence. fwiw I have it hooked to my reverse proxy and can just use the roundcube website on my phone externally, it scales nicely for phone screens.

I went through this same process and research and I landed on hosting Roundcube as a docker container on a server in my home built from the guts of my old laptop but you can run it locally too.

I think your premise is flawed tbh and lemmy is still beta. Every lemmy server has the potential to be its own community. I don’t actually care much about the federation, vegantheoryclub.org is its own thing with its own users we’re small but we have a matrix chat and a discord too. With the new version we’re probably going to turn off the votes. Hexbear existed longer as a stand alone site than it did with federation and has one of the most active communities. So really big picture is that lemmy is the software that can bring back the distributed forums of all and federation is just a side benefit.

Who cares about mods and mod powers, seriously. If you don’t like a community, launch your own server and pay it forward you can run it however you want and attract your own users.

Persian is my mother tongue but the most disappointing day in my life is when I realized I dreamed in English because it has been my primary language most of my life. I honestly don’t even know if I can set lemmy to Persian, I’ve never checked.

I don’t really think the name of the software matters. My server is called The Vegan Theory Club, and that is what I ultimately want people to look for and know. The fact that we are running the lemmy software is a bit incidental imo, it is a good website platform and I think if you are looking for software it is an obvious choice and in that context people aren’t going to confuse it with Motörhead

This is how I can tell you aren’t GenX lol. Ace of Spades by Motörhead was huge in the 80s
