TV shows and movies are already compressed. If you try to compress something that’s already compressed, it typically ends up bigger if anything.
I am also ‘Andrew’, the admin of this server. I’ll try to remember to only use this account for posting stuff.

I once did some office work for a tobacco company, where you were allowed to smoke at your desk. I don’t smoke, but I had a few ciggies when I was there, because you realise that you’ve never really pointed at anything, until you’ve pointed at it with a cig in your hand. It’s just a better way to point at stuff (I don’t make the rules).
I’m guessing this post is meant to be a link to this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tqSztEQprgg
The microwave is a fundamental part of the Make Tea -> Forget About Tea -> Reheat Tea cycle.
Also, I have to put the bag in first, because otherwise I’ve no idea how much room I need to leave for it (which you’d think I’d be able to eyeball by now, but apparently not).
(I know I’m full of shit, even when I’m writing the comment).
There’s a podcast by Tansy Gardam called ‘Going Rogue’ that was initially about the making of Rogue One, and she covered some details about Underworld in the first episode. Lucas has said that they couldn’t figure out a way to make it for less than $50 million an episode. In the meantime, as the MimicJar also mentions, a lot of the ideas were cannibalised for Clone Wars and later shows (the character of Saw Gerrera originally came from Underworld).
I watched a TV show called ‘Justified: City Primeval’ - it’s not very good, but something I found weird was how often the characters mentioned each other’s race I’m from the UK, so maybe it was just badly written, or maybe Americans do actually talk like that.
There’s a Lemmy community at !severance@lemmy.world (although I’ve found that chatting about TV is harder than it looks).
I go there for the post-episode TV discussions (though I don’t log in). It can interesting to read people’s theories for something like Severance, although the whole experience can end up being depressing (because of mod shenanigans, the over-use of spoiler syntax, and the dissonance / over-reaction created when some show that the hive-mind has already determined is the best thing ever has a duff episode)
They did yeah, but I think it was by accident than design (they delayed the original launch so they weren’t directly up against 2 other big shows, and released all 3 eps at the same time to catch up with the original schedule). I’ve read that they’re releasing 3 every week for Season 2, which should be awesome (hopefully).
Per the article, only the first 3 episodes are free on YouTube.
The whole season is now available on Hulu as well as Disney+ (they’ve done a similar thing before, where they also made it available via ABC).
I use an distro called ‘Bunsen Labs’, which was created as a successor to CrunchBang Linux when maintenance of that distro ceased. It uses OpenBox as the WM, and works well for an old laptop and for random VMs I spin up to test things (my test Lemmy instance runs on it).
I’d be surprised if he used anything like his natural accent - American voices seem to be against the rules for fantasy shows (though there’s probably exceptions I’m not thinking of).
Awesome - I had hoped that the release schedule would fit with the show’s structure, but I wasn’t optimistic 'cos the streamers usually want more than a month’s sign-up to view a season.
It’ll be like getting a film a week, so hopefully there isn’t too much ‘previously on’ gunk. I’m unlikely to be the only one who’s planning to re-edit the eps into films anyway.
Am watching it for Aimee Lou Wood (the toughest foe a Walton Googins character has ever faced).
Not so bothered by the ‘family of wankers’, or the passive-aggressive bitchiness of Carrie Coon’s gang, but we’ll see. This show does the impressive trick of making unrelatable, unlikeable people entertaining.
Thought that thumbnail was a joke when I first saw it, like someone had pasted Luna’s head on Mon’s husband’s body. Still looks a bit off, but I guess it’s a “you walk in, act like you belong” reference.
All I need now is for someone to make it April 22nd already. By science or magic, I’m not fussed.
No, you’re right. It’s just how it sounds with Sanders’ distinct accent.
For stuff about films, I like ‘Thomas Flight’ and ‘Like Stories Of Old’. LSOO has just released a video about Gladiator II that I’m going to watch in a bit (I’m hoping he hated it as much as I did!)
Probably not. It’s fairly rare for those sorts of API endpoints to be covered by mobile apps.
