How is this more useful than just posting to an rss feed? Not trying to be snarky, just curious about the design

I think that just being exposed to other points of view is productive. I’ve had enjoyable back and forths about plenty of media I enjoy and others have enjoyed.

I think it has helped me have a more well rounded worldview. I consider myself more conservative that the average poster on the fediverse. I still dont think that I’ve moved that leftward but I’ve evolved from hating the term enshittification and not really seeing it as a big deal to be all in on the resistance to it.

I just enjoy being here and the conversations I have here.

Apollo kept Reddit as it was and without Apollo, I had no reason to use Reddit any more

Now I don’t really own anything I post on my Lemmy.world account but they also can’t stop me from exporting my subscription list and moving my account to somewhere else on the fediverse. And if I wanted to, I could port my account to a single user instance and I would actually own my local copy of the data (of course federation means I don’t really own the federated copies since it’s all public.

It’s more relevant on a platform like mastodon where I not only can export my follows but can port my followers to my new account if I move.

Banks also pay the depositors interest so you should want the bank to make money. Unless you suggest that we should be storing our money in coffee cans and burying them in the yard. In which case, your money is even less valuable due to inflation and their is less money for the bank to lend to you community.

That being said banks should be regional and community focused and should never be allowed to grow to the size where if they make bad investments it takes our entire financial system down with it.
