People who cared about physical games haven’t been PC gamers for 20 years. You could still care about physical games on consoles until about last week.

Valve is also good to gamers with consumer friendly pricing and their client extends the gaming experience rather than running in the background, mostly useless like the console features and the other store fronts.

I also don’t care for steam but I’m not upset about it because I just stopped playing on PC for years. The games I do play, still came out on disc. I remember that CoD MW2 was the game that broke the camels back, even though you installed it off the disc, it still wouldn’t launch without steam. (Same with HL2 but I knew that going into it and didn’t buy it)

The porn is going to go away or be way lower quality. People are not going to post stolen pornographic content on account tied to their real identity.

No instances have to be shut down, if Lemmy world asks users to perform age verification, I’ll just move my account to sh.itjust.works and those who are ok with giving strangers their ID can stay on Lemmy.world. And so on and so forth until you find an instance that you trust that doesn’t live in a jurisdiction that bends the knee

Start with the assumption the video is fake. Do you trust the source? If the video is of something outrageous, did you notice something feels uncanny? Does the lighting, shot angle, and proportions make sense?

If the answer is not yes, no, yes then it’s probably AI

But the YouTuber that sold me my VPN said it kept my online data safe (whatever that means)

Edit: I hope that the lesson learned is about needing to have multiple forms of MFA and a safe location for back up codes, like you would have multiple sets of keys and maybe a key box hidden in a safe place. Not blaming you for not realizing it at the time, it’s not something one would think about until it’s too late. It’s not like we had our parents to teach us about MFA best practices like you might have for house keys

I would have, if it was $750. I just can’t justify the price at $300 more. I have an ancient PC that still plays the old games I love and a PS5 for the new games. Not sure there are many PC exclusives that require top of the line hardware to run.

You don’t have to go closed source to monetize your software (although it does make it easier)

Putting it this way, project management is a skill that requires expertise. Lots of Laborers have the expertise to be the subcontractor, not all of them succeed at being the contractor/foreman.

The majority of disfunction in workplaces seems to be that the middle managers don’t have the skills to be there either or they’d have probably been promoted up the ladder even further already

I think that just being exposed to other points of view is productive. I’ve had enjoyable back and forths about plenty of media I enjoy and others have enjoyed.

I think it has helped me have a more well rounded worldview. I consider myself more conservative that the average poster on the fediverse. I still dont think that I’ve moved that leftward but I’ve evolved from hating the term enshittification and not really seeing it as a big deal to be all in on the resistance to it.

I just enjoy being here and the conversations I have here.
