Use old eggs. New eggs sink to bottom of a glass of water and lay on their side, old eggs will sink but stand up, bad eggs float.

I’ve read all of them except City of Dreaming Books in English. Ruma is a very close second for me followed by the Alcamasters Apprentice. I wish I could speak/read German, there are a couple of titles of his that apparently won’t be translated for a reason I can’t remember.

‘The 13 &1/2 lives of Captain Bluebear’ is a wonderful novel and a super fun read. Easily my favorite of the Zamonia series by Walter Mores. I highly recommend this series
