Getting into the command line isn’t the problem. It’s the lack of consistency in how things are configured and the random command names that you have to remember or look up.
Windows might be tied to an online account, but Linux is tied to online communities to figure out nearly anything.
Fair, but why not enable updates by default? Not doing so seems like a disservice to the internet community.

I just set up a raspberry pi and i couldn’t figure out if it would automatically update, there wasn’t any gui option for it.
I found a few websites all with different methods to set up auto update. One of the most accepted was some cli that was encouraged to copy/paste. It installed something, but it then needed additional config to work on rpi.
30 mins from the time I powered on it was ready. In windows, it’s enabled out of the box and searching for “updates” on the task bar finds it for you.
Which of these OS’s was easier?
It causes additional wear. Looks modern though.
yeah that’s probably fine, i don’t have any experience with it myself though. AT is known to be decent and deserves credit for staying in vinyl business even when everyone else was exiting it.
I personally would check out the local 2nd-hand stores, pawn shops, and estate sales for a week or two 1st to see if there’s anything laying around though. I paid $75 for my old gemini from a vintage/antique shop 5 years ago and I think all it needed was a new cart and soldering of some new line-out leads. Anything Technics will be overpriced but i regularly come across gear from the 70’s and 80’s that probably work great. I suppose i should buy them up, fix them, and get them into people’s homes.
Speakers vibrate. You don’t want vibrations getting to the needle or you get feedback.
You also don’t want the player moving around as it can cause the needle to jump.
Vinyl isn’t a cheap hobby.
Desktop streaming isn’t the same as web apps.
Modern desktop streaming is quite impressive. 100ms, 5% loss is no problem for most tasks. You don’t even notice it, and as a result your experience can sometimes be better.
Additionally you can offload some tasks to the local machine where appropriate.
You dont need to fit every users needs into a thin client setup, but you could fit probably 50% of all users onto one and they wouldn’t know any different. Think of the energy savings. Think of all that plastic that goes into a desktop or laptop that isn’t needed in a virtualized blade chassis. Think of the rolling performance upgrades. Think of never having your hardware go End of Support. Think of the old equipment that ends up properly e-wasted instead of shoved into a dump. Think of the batteries that no longer need to get produced.
I might play around with this idea and host my own non-profit Desktop as a Service.

Renting PCs is probably overall cheaper and a lot better for the environment. Most people don’t need a machine, they just need a thin client and something to access a few apps maybe 30 mins a day.
Even “power users” don’t need a machine.
If there were a non-profit or not-for-profit that was selling maybe an rpi we’d be saving a lot of money and reducing climate harm.
I just don’t trust bezos to not be greedy.
The issue was that they werent letting customers change or decline a component that updates regularly and they weren’t testing it hemselves.
I was forced to switch to CS and there are better products and managed edr out there.
From a different perspective, renting a pc and having a thin client would be a lot better for the environment and cheaper for the consumer.
Sadly I don’t think that’s the goal of these companies

That’s not how ip addressing works.
Mint/debian/ubuntu is where I encountered challenges. I only stated that have experience using Gentoo for a number of years to provide evidence that I’m not completely clueless.
Causing me financial harm. For example, Verizon wireless hounded me for more than 3 years over $200 for a home router that I sent back to them.
The worst ms has done is make me read and disable/uninstall some defaults. They have encouraged me to look at alternatives and I have a number of non-ms devices.
Linux always screws up though and is redrawing the line for me. I have a small device that runs Linux and the upgrade process was backup all your data and then wipe/reinstall. wtf?
Another laptop wouldn’t login or let me do anything without typing in a PIN, while MS has Hello and UAC.
Looking up commands or blogs for something that should take 3 clicks, like fixing dpi scaling, shouldn’t take 30+ minutes.
If I struggle even the slightest with simple issues, it’s just not ready for me. I completed my college education solely on Gentoo machines (stage 1 I think it was called?) so I’m comfortable with Linux at a beginner to intermediate level. It’s just not polished.
I go to osx if they supported other hardware.
Meshtastic is just as susceptible to listening and isn’t perfect at encryption or anonymity but should be another tool to consider when cellphone towers are down or otherwise unusable.
Disagree when it comes to security patches.
