That does sound kind of messed up the way it is described in the article especially based on who is funding it. However, almost every city builder or factory game I’ve played involves use of fossil fuels for much of the game and you layer in better options as they become available.

It’s appalling that software companies would blatantly push branded propaganda like this!

I miss when games weren’t tainted by corporate advertising. We had good wholesome games like Yo Noid, Cool Spot, and Chex Quest!

When I was in junior high and high school in west Texas, reps from Exxon came to class to give pro-petroleum industry lectures in social studies class at least once a year. They also did field trips to a petroleum “museum” that was entirely pro-fossil fuels.

The Houston Museum of Natural Science is a fantastic museum and I love visiting, but the entire top floor is basically propaganda for oil companies who made big donations. It’s under the guise of teaching about petroleum engineering, but it’s just so blatant and gross. If you go (which I highly recommend), skip the top floor

Do children have parents? Because this is their problem. When did personal responsibility stop being a thing?

There has always been shit out there that will fuck up your kids. That’s literally never going to change unless our species goes through some DRASTIC and specific evolutionary pressures. As a parent, it’s your job to protect your kids - not society.

Edit: And if you can’t, for whatever reason, then it’s not society’s fault that you made too many children.

So if a kid has crappy parents then who’s job is it to keep the kid safe?

So the kid has to suffer because they weren’t lucky enough to be born to good parents or into a society that has a responsibility to act in their best interest. Got it.

Correct. That is the shithole we are currently living in (excluding the few countries that give a fuck about children). For an example of someone born from shitty parents in a shitty society “educated” by the shitty public system of the USA, I present you with… Me.

Ah yes, surely “DontMakeMoreBabies” would be the perfect source for all my parenting advice.

Everyone knows that anti-natalists are the best source for parenting advice!
