I just set up my Loops account in order to beta test the iOS app.

Have been very impressed w loops so far!
Especially considering it’s a one man team who also made pixelfed and some other lesser known fediverse projects.
So far, so good. The software works. You’re able to watch videos, comment, follow people etc. There are minor glitches here and there, but there are also lots of updates all the time.
It reminds me of something I’ve read about Mastodon. That place was designed to be less addictive than Twitter, so feeling a little bored after a while is a feature, not a bug. Loops gives me that same vibe, although it’s probably caused by the the small number of videos and people making them.
It needs more uploads created by the people behind the accounts rather than low effort reuploads of other’s content.
That will come but for now it’s more helpful for the beta testing to have a large diversity of scenarios to work with.
I’m just worried it’ll become normalised to be reuploads instead of original stuff.
Ah I see. Fwiw, !loops@midwest.social has this in the sidebar:
If the loop you’re posting isn’t original content uploaded by the creator, prefix the title with [R] for “reposted”. For example, [R] Cute dog.
So that’s at least something to help differentiate them.
FYI Tesseract as implemented on e.g. dubvee.org, an alternative front-end UI for Lemmy made by Admiral Patrick, has an embedded player already, which doesn’t need an account to play the videos. I hope to see even greater levels of integration soon, perhaps in PieFed!:-)

It kinda is yeah.:-) Both Tesseract and PieFed have YouTube embedding, but only Tesseract has that for Loops (so far).

In my opinion, yes. That’s just how he likes to play.
I’ve known people who played FPS like that… they beat us all “normal distance” folk. Likely wouldn’t work at pro levels, but definitely worked at semi-casual.
I suspect it has to do with larger field of view and quick eye accomodation (aka: young).
Heck yeah, something original.
The only problem with loops so far is its full of reuploads of other people’s content which I consider bad and also boring. Folks should make their own stuff.

Yes, there’s a decent (albeit bare bones) Android client. The web interface is about to have a major update, but at the moment is pants.
