    I personally don’t think we should be ripping down statues. Sure they are of people who did some dark things but you can’t erase history. Also it is unfair to the artists who made it.

    Instead, you should simply put up new statues in new areas. There is plenty of room.

      Statues are icons meant to glorify history. You don’t learn anything from a statue, it’s just a celebration.

      Let’s glorify good history and not bad history.

        Let’s just erase the past then. That’s what we do apparently. Instead of addressing historical injustices we just forget they happened.

          No one learns history from statues. We don’t have any statues of Hitler but you certainly know who he was.

          The past will still be there in textbooks and we can teach everyone what an irredeemable fucking monster he was.

        That’s not surprising as that’s where the nasty racism and racial violence took place (or at least more so then than now)

          yeah, and they make people feel unsafe as they are basically symbols that the nasty racism is still around. imagine leaving up a statue of Stalin put up in 1995.
