I used a flashlight mount on the handlebar, and pointed it at the ground in front of me instead of forward into space. Worked very well and didn’t shine into people’s eyes. I also didn’t use the blinkenlights mode on the rear light despite it being the popular option around here — it’s just annoying.

I’ve had a run-in with blinding lights when I was in a group of people cycling at night, and on a path through an unlit park we encountered a group riding the opposite way. Couldn’t see shit except their lights.
