Seriously, gave those up years ago.
I could never. Dialing in just the right friction through your skates and mousepad and getting the perfect stopping power for a flick shot. There’s just nothing else like it when I do game (which is almost never these days now. I just hate to admit it to myself I don’t need all that while scrolling code all day).
As a fellow code scroller and gadget tinkerer… you just need to move on to the mechanical keyboards obsession.
Split keyboard, ortholinear key layout, mechanical key switches, multiple thumb keys (my thumbs are more capable than a single space bar!!), hardware macros, programmable individually addressable RGBs so your desk can look like rainbow vomit when you’re not using it. Optional attached trackball/trackpad so you can live the ‘I’m never taking my hands off the keyboard’ life without becoming a vim/emacs person.

Funny you should mention keyboards. My wife has started hinting she’s going to steal mine soon (basic ducky, nothing fancy) because she likes the click clack. A split ortho tkl is exactly where I’m leaning to replace it when she does go “yoink”. I’ll take a look at the voyager, thanks.
She’s even got her eye on a psyduck key cap set I think. Maybe I should just pull the trigger and snag those for our anniversary for her and hand it over.
ZSA has a few variants that are worth looking. It takes a bit to adjust, be prepared to spend a week or two typing slow and needing a cheatsheet to know which layer contains which key/function.
There’s also a thriving market for custom built keyboards on Etsy. Corne and Sofle layouts are popular and if you’re feeling extra DIY you can just buy the boards/switches/controller/case individually and solder them together. The controllers are typically using QMK or ZMK firmware and there’s a whole sub-community of fellow nerds so you’ll find plenty of guides/git repos/configs to help you along.
I went with the ZSA keyboard first, they’ve done all of the hard work for you (and their layout creation tool is very nice). Now that I’m familiar with the ecosystem/community I’ll probably build my next one so I can make a custom sized/sculpted layout (gotta justify this 3D printer somehow…).
