From Craig Smith

A few more from yesterday evening. Never tire of photographing these stunning birds. The Long Eared Owl gets its name from the ear tufts which are feathers and not real ears. They help the owl look like a tree branch.

It looks like so much fun, doesn’t it?!

I always hope they get some enjoyment out of flying. It feels like a shame if they didn’t. I know it’s hard to always enjoy something that one makes a “job”, and they technically fly to survive (eat/escape), but in my heart, I always hope they sometimes do little tricks like loop-the loops and barrel rolls, just because they can!
