I’m not a native English speaker, so forgive my ignorance, but isn’t “women” a noun, not an adjective? Why not just say “female artists” or “female writers”?
As a side note, I’ve also literally never seen anyone say “men artists” or “men writers”. What gives?

It’s Providing context.
For example: it’s a typically male dominated space, identifying that a woman was involved helps open the door to other women, or highlighting that this piece of content could have a unique perspective.
I think my own hobby from twenty years ago, where there were some cards where it was a woman artist, and it became low-key drama like “women playing mtg?” The art looked just as good as any of the others.
Comics also come to mind, with women creatives leading a major superhero comic book.
