A nearby forest that was shown to me in covid lockdown has a nice clearing at the lowest section with a few tree logs to sit on. Yesterday I noticed mushrooms there for the first or second time i can remember, which i credit to all the dead wood that’s left alone there.
It feels like such a healthy place; on one side is allotments, on the other side is a huge meadow. To the top and bottom it’s bounded by forested roads, but on the other side of them is more greenspace. I should really learn thoroughly how forest ecology works, but I get the feeling that it’s healthier as a result of more green on all sides.
Dead tree = healthy forest
