I’m torn, because yeah, it’s a made up story, but at least it’s a made up story that is more positive than other made up stories that stoke the worse inclinations.
Of course, if it’s easy to find their little bakery from that social media account, well then cynicism cuts hard back toward ‘hoping for viral marketing’.
So I guess the compromise is to take in the positivity and completely ignore the source…

I look at it this way: true or false, something like this happens every day. I’m lucky enough to know an entire community of people who would do something like this, and I doubt they’d all post it on the Internet, so I accept this as the placeholder.
I guess I agree, but social media hasn’t exactly kept my standards high about good writing in general… Probably to my detriment, but I know I suck at writing too.
I’m not going to claim to be a great writer myself, but I recognized OOP’s style from the sort of utter shit I used to hand in when I was 13 years old and trying to second-guess what sort of thing the teacher would give good grades for.
It reads like they just learned about “show, don’t tell”, and resolved to show for seven whole lines and then tell anyway. It’s an insult to the reader’s intelligence.
They’re cynical because this person is lying and this never happened.

My issue isn’t that it’s fake per se but that it’s cloying and mawkishly so. It’s like what a really bad writer thinks good writing looks like.
