45 years ago the NYT first published about a ‘gay cancer’. They were describing AIDS. Governments, especially the US government, would ignore it anyway. These were desperate times for gay people.

To read these headlines brings me hope. And it shows me that anyone who says activism doesn’t work, here it is. Governments didn’t give a shit until activists forced them into action.

To me at least, these people saved lifes with their activism. Through sit-ins, fighting the cops, demanding change, literally dying on the steps of the halls of power.

I hope we remember everyone who fought for this.

The beginning of 2030 is in 3.5 years. That seems rather short.

Remember their recent issues with transmission of Measles, those point towards gaps in the public health system, I would think. Not the best starting position for such an anti HIV campaign.

Nonetheless, I hope the attempt is genuine, and wish them the best of luck.

That’s not a fair comparison. Measles are highly contagious and viruses can survive for hours on contaminated surfaces. HIV on the on the other hand requires much closer contact. I can share a glass with an HIV infected person all day without any risk, but staying in the same room a measle infected patient left an hour earlier would be a pretty dumb idea for an unvaccinated person.
Additionally the 95-95-95 goal¹ originally developed by the WHO is ambitious but far from eliminating all transmission of the HI virus.

¹ (95 % of people living with HIV knowing about their infection, of which 95 % (90 % of total) receive state-of-the-art treatment, of which 95% (86 % of total) reach undetectable viral load meaning they can’t infect others)

It’s not about any country specifically although I’m sure you’ll feel the effects of no CUSMA more than I will. It’s about allocating resources towards society’s most vulnerable. Maybe it will work out and I hope it does but it’s not likely.

I also doubt it, but having a lofty goal is not necessarily a bad thing. Aim for the stars, land on the moon type thing.

I agree wholeheartedly but lets be real most countries come up short in this scenario. It’s a nice thought but until it comes to fruition I’m skeptical.
