I failed 🙂

This piece of pipe has been in the water for years. It’s been sighted and reported for removal by folks several times. One end of it sticks out of the water, but most of it is underwater and it’s kind of a hazard to motorboat propellers. But mostly it trash that has no business being in our lake.

Luckily, when I saw it this weekend, I had my GPS logger on, so now we have an accurate fix on it. I came back with the kayak yesterday, hoping it would be small enough to drag ashore, but obviously it’s not budging. It’s either very long or stuck to the bottom.

Oh well, it’s someone else’s problem now - someone with a bigger boat than me.

Very long rope to pull with a truck ?

Maybe might need to drill a hole in it to loop a rope through. There are manual tools to drill holes in things.

Which may be necessary since it’s in the water.

Just brain storming here but …a bullet?

Could someone potentially shoot a hole in it or would it shatter ?

This might be a more involved project than it seems at first.

Could you assemble a team of people interested in tackling this?

Maybe ask on a local community group or just talk to people you encounter in the area. ?

I feel like if you don’t work to get it out, no one else is going to.

The water management association is aware of the presence of that thing. It’s just that nobody has time to go retrieve it. I volunteered my efforts but I’m not the right person to do this obviously.

I think someone with a bigger boat and a hacksaw, slowly lifting it from the bottom of the lake and cutting it in sections would be the solution. Although I have no idea how long it is: for all I know, it might run the entire length of the lake 🙂

This lake used to be a swamp, and I know it was oxygenated some 20 years ago as part of the sanitation effort (it was also dredged, including the inlets and outlets, and fish reintroduced). This might be the pipe that used to bring air to the lake. Whatever it is, the reason why it’s there has been lost to time.
