Kindly meet the “Perentie” ( Varanus giganteus ) monitor lizard, the fourth-largest lizard in the world. This magnificent beast may also be called a “Goanna”, I believe.

Interestingly, while these blokies seem to usually inhabit arid desert regions, this one sauntered over to the beach that day, evidently to look for turtle hatchlings or carcasses, and to enjoy a little dip.

I’m not 100% on this, but it seems the location was “Ningaloo” in the Cape Range National Park in Exmouth, Western Australia, with photos by Craig Kitson.
